A.              BUDGET ADOPTION

1.              Adoption of School District Budget for the 2016-17 School Year

The Board of Education will adopt the budget for the 2017-18 school year, which will be presented to the tax payers for a vote on May 16, 2017. The proposed budget for the Merrick Union Free School District is $48,589,857 plus an additional $688,000 for the Merrick Library Debt Service for a total of $49,277,857.

 

B.              PERSONNEL

1.              Appointment of Cleaner (Part Time)

Appointment of Michael Cappuzzo As a Cleaner (Part Time) assigned to Birch School, effective April 21, 2017.  The hourly rate of pay is $19.13 as per the Merrick Custodial Unit Salary Schedule.  This is a part time position without benefits.

 

These appointments are conditional pending approval by Nassau County Civil Service Commission.

 

2.              Appointment of Short Term Leave Replacement

We are recommending the appointment of Kristina Lanza as a short term leave replacement Special Education Teacher, effective April 3, 2017 and ending no later than June 30, 2017.  Her salary will be $61,372 BA Entry Level Step (prorated).

 

3.              Resignation of Teacher

We received a letter of resignation from Keri Kaufman, Technology Teacher, effective, March 11, 2017.

 

4.              Additional hours for Special Education Services

Alison Ippolito is to be paid for 20 hours of home services for the 2016-2017 school year at the home tutoring rate of $50/per hour..

 

5.              Dance Performance Chaperones

The following teachers are to be paid $22.00/hr., 2 hours each, for chaperoning the Grade 3 dance performance:

C.              ADMINISTRATION

1.              Change Date of May Board Meeting

RESOLVED, that the Merrick Board of Education change the date of the May board meeting from Tuesday, May 9, 2017 to Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

 

2.              Policy- First Reading

The attached internet policy 4526 is a revision to policy 9010 which is being deleted.  It is being presented for a first reading by the Board of Education.

 

3.              Memorandum of Agreement Regarding Sick Days

Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools and consultation with the Board of Education, the attached agreement with the Merrick Custodial Unit, CSEA Inc. Is entered into.

 

4.              Memorandum of Agreement - Merrick Office Personnel Association

The Merrick Office Personnel Association (MOPA) and the Merrick Union Free School District reached an agreement on the terms of a four year contract effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2021.

 

RESOLVED, that the memorandum of agreement between the Merrick Union Free School District and the Merrick Office Personnel Association is hereby ratified.

F.              BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY

1.              Approval of 2017-2018 Bellmore-Merrick Consortium Transportation Services

WHEREAS, a number of public school districts in Nassau County wish to jointly solicit proposals, together with the Nassau Board of Cooperative Educational Services ("BOCES") for pupil transportation services for the 2017-2018 school year (and any renewal period) in accordance with the applicable provisions of General Municipal Law;

 

WHEREAS, the public school districts and the BOCES have agreed to form a Cooperative (the "Cooperative") for this purpose;

 

WHEREAS, the Merrick Union Free School District is desirous of participating in the Cooperative for joint solicitation of proposals for pupil transportation services as authorized by General Municipal Law, Section 119-0 in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Inter-Municipal Cooperative Transportation Agreement attached hereto;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education authorizes the School District to participate in the Cooperative; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby approves the Inter-Municipal Cooperative Transportation Agreement (Recitals) attached hereto and authorizes the Board President to execute the Agreement on behalf of the Board of Education.

 

2.              Approval of Consultant Service Contract - R. S. Abrams Accounting Services

The following consultant service contract, with anticipated payments in excess of $2,500.00, is being submitted for Board approval as follows:

3.              Addition and Alterations at Chatterton Elementary School

On behalf of the Merrick Union Free School District, appointed architects, Burton, Behrendt and Smith accepted proposals from three firms to perform survey work in conjunction with the planned construction at Chatterton Elementary School. 

 

To perform survey work: Three (3) invitations to bid were requested and two (2) responded. Having worked with all three firms in the past and finding all to be capable of performing the required work, Burton, Behrendt and Smith has recommended that the award be made to the lowest responsible bidder meeting specifications.  The bidders are as follows:

 

* American Engineering & Land Surveying, PC               $  8,950.00              (Lowest bidder)

* Barrett Bonacci & Van Weele, PC                                          $12,925.00

* Lockwood, Kessler & Bartlett, Inc.                                             Declined

 

 

On behalf of the Merrick Union Free School District, appointed architects, Burton, Behrendt and Smith accepted proposals from three firms to perform test borings and geotechnical services in conjunction with the planned site addition and alteration at Chatterton Elementary School. 

To perform test borings and geotechnical services: Three (3) invitations to bid were requested and three (3) responded. Having worked with all three firms in the past and finding all to be capable of performing the required work, Burton, Behrendt and Smith has recommended that the award be made to the lowest responsible bidder meeting specifications.  The bidders are as follows:

 

* Soil Mechanics                                                                      $7,425.00              (Lowest bidder)

* Municipal Testing Laboratory Inc.                                          $7,825.00

* Universal Testing & Inspection                                          $9,250.00

 

4.              Site Alterations at Lakeside Elementary School

On behalf of the Merrick Union Free School District, appointed architects, Burton, Behrendt and Smith accepted proposals from three firms to perform survey work in conjunction with the planned construction at Lakeside Elementary School.
